Something quite beautiful has been happening on Twitter, and Facebook also. Several times, I have let people know when I am about to sit, and invited them to join me. To my surprise, each time, one or several of them did just that.
Thanks to @WesternNovice, @espritrelax, @surfacebuddha, @Miko57 (and his two daughters, one age 6), @WalkingAwake, for joining via Twitter.
Thanks to Lori Wong, Alicia McLucas, Maia Duerr, for joining via Facebook.
A gift of impromptu sangha that has warmed my heart, and has given an extra boost to my practice, and hopefully my friends' practice also.
Following @surfacebuddha 's nudge, 'Sitting is so much stronger when you know you're not alone. Let's keep it going, you inspire others', I would like to invite you to expand the ripple further. Next time you sit, don't keep it to yourself. Instead, tweet it, facebook it, and send out an invite. Suggested hashtag on Twitter: #wannasit?
Of course, you can also join the Online Meditation Crew and heed their daily calls.
I love seeing your invites to sit on Facebook - though usually it's after the fact. A happy reminder that you and others are sitting... even when we aren't or can't at that same time. I love to think of all the people around the world who are at some time during the day in sitting meditation or doing metta for all beings! And that when I am sitting, there are many others around the world who are also sitting!
ReplyDeleteMay this bring inspiration and encouragement to others and ourselves, too.
Thank you Lori! Yes, the experience of sangha is such a powerful thing, regarding of where, when, and how it manifests. I am pretty sure the Buddha would have used Facebook, Twitter, etc . . . as these are natural frameworks for worldwide sangha. Of course, not substitute for physical, local sangha, but a great adjunct.
ReplyDeleteMuch metta to you!
I am among the many who appreciate just knowing you're sitting, even (especially) if I'm sitting at my desk at work, unable to join. I always take a moment to close my eyes, find my breath & send wishes of peace your way. Keep it going!
ReplyDeleteOh! thank you Kristen. What a gift you just gave me. I receive it with much gratitude.
ReplyDeleteMuch metta to you,
marguerite
From Twitter, many tweets amplifying call for #wannasit :) - Thank you all!

@MindDeep - #wannasit? Ha ha! I love it!
Wanasit? You bet, a brilliant idea. I just hope that this is possible when I am in Australia. However I will post and invite when I intend to sit.
ReplyDeleteMuch peace to you and all.
Miro
Nice Marguerite! I'll definitely start doing this. I wonder if anyone will be joining me at 5:30 am CST? :)
ReplyDeleteLetting my fellow followers know about this as well!
Wonderful, Miro!
ReplyDeleteI am just curious, what, in Australia, will make it difficult?
Nate, I look forward to seeing your #wannasit tweets on Twitter.
ReplyDeleteMy own approach to this is a little less precise. I just tweet as I am about to sit, and see if anyone is inspired to do same at that time :)
Thank you so much for the nudge to sit more often. I think one on your first tweets I remember reading was "wanna sit with me"? I never expected to see that! Now it seems the Online Meditation Crew is finding many more who "wannasit". This really encourages me! Thanks, again. And thank you for the mention in your post.
ReplyDeleteOh! I am so glad . . . Thank you for sitting with me. I receive it as the great gift that it is.
ReplyDeleteDeep bow to you.
